How to change a zipper lock. How to fix a zipper if the slider has completely come off

On the side of the zipper where the socket and detachable stopper are located, put new dog. In the case of a one-piece zipper, slightly separate the ends of the rails and insert each into the pawl. How does a zipper work? Very often, a product with a zipper without a pawl is taken to the studio. And you begin to quickly figure out how to insert the slider into the zipper correctly to fasten the jacket. To do this, remove the limiter at the top of the zipper and pull out the old “dog”.

It can be a shame when there is a product with a zipper, but there is no dog (slider) on it. The dog may jump off the rails, get lost or be broken. The master sews a new one in its place, or replaces the old one with a dog. Let's try to figure out how to replace the dog at home. The runner should go flat side down. The dog will easily slide down the links.

The seller can help you with this. He will select the appropriate slider number based on the zipper. If the zipper is one-piece or sold by the meter, purchase as many sliders as you need. Look carefully at the side of the tape where the slider was inserted. It holds the pawl in the up position. If the stopper has moved, adjust it using pliers so that the pawl does not jump out again.

Fasten through the edge of the braid several times. She will not let the runner jump off again. Carefully move the slider down. Do not overdo the pressure so as not to damage the rails. If the slider, despite efforts, does not want to move, slightly straighten the slots on the pawl (where the rails are inserted).

Zip slider

Change clothes and take the item to the studio? To change the slider, you need to know what types of sliders there are and what to do if they break. If the teeth on the zipper have crumbled, then the lock itself needs to be changed completely. The pawl is changed when, when fastening or unfastening the fastener, it diverges or jams. In this case, it becomes damaged and needs to be replaced.

Thread the second half of the lock into the slider, check how it closes the teeth, then install the limiter, pressing it with pliers. Instead of a limiter, you can install 2 sliders that can move freely in both directions.

If you subsequently secure the fastener using hand stitches, the item will look untidy. When replacing the slider, you need to move it very smoothly. If the teeth are plastic, then even after you have completed the task of putting the zipper on your own, the lock will not last long. A stopper, which can be purchased at a store, or can be replaced with several large stitches, will prevent the runner from slipping off.

How to put a new zipper on a zipper that is already starting to wear out? A woman can cope with replacing the zipper slider on her own. To press the pawl with pliers, brute force is not needed. The slider must be secured so that it moves freely along the teeth.

Align both sides of the zipper as carefully as possible. The easiest way to do this is on a smooth, flat surface. Clamping with pliers from above ( inner surface the plier should touch the outside of the slider), carefully insert the disconnected half of the zipper into the slider.

Pull the slider up and down to check if the zipper halves are completely connected. If not, then drag the slider as close to the end as possible. You will have to choose where the closing clasp will start. Using a good pair of scissors, make a slit on the half of the zipper without the slider, at the same level as the bottom of the slider when it is in its lowest position.

If the zipper just opens something and it doesn’t matter which way it opens (not like, for example, a fly), you can try this method. You can seriously damage the zipper if you pull too hard to pick up the slack.

Sometimes pliers can damage the slider so much that it can no longer be repaired. When you force the disconnected half back into the slider with pliers, the teeth on the normal half can be damaged.

Use only if you can avoid tearing the fabric. If the item is quite expensive and you do not want to take risks, it is better to completely change the zipper. The method will not work on zippers that separate all the way, like on jackets.

If the zipper is not detachable, start the slider in the same way, only you need to start threading the second end of the zipper into the pawl from the top, try to push the slider down to idle, align it and fasten it.

I have repeatedly encountered this problem when I needed to insert a zipper into a new pawl, since the old one had already exhausted its resource. Then we carefully put the new dog on the zipper so that it fits evenly into the zipper and does not bend it, because if the zipper is damaged, then it will be much more difficult to perform this action.

Replacing zippers on trousers and bags

The zipper is a very popular type of fastener. In most cases, people turn to a locksmith to repair or replace a lock. If it is not possible to repair the dog, it must be replaced. First of all, you will have to purchase a new slider. It must match the type of zipper. To replace a broken pawl, you need to equip yourself with the following tools: pliers, thread and needle.

In most cases, it is enough to replace the pawl and wear the item again. But not everyone knows how to quickly fix a zipper pull. Now you know what to do if the zipper with a plastic stopper breaks.

Obviously, the zipper type fastener is known to everyone and is very popular in all its applications and manifestations.

These are clothes and shoes, bags and cases, and a lot of other equally useful things. Do you know what underlies its operating principle?

Few people know that the idea for its implementation was given to the world by an ordinary bird. More precisely, a bird's feather. Even more precisely, the principle of connecting the elements of the pen into a single plane. This is an alternating interlocking of feather fibers, ultimately forming a single whole.
The same thing happens in ordinary “lightning”. When fastening it, the elements of one edge engage with the elements of the other edge using a lock or, in other words, a “slider”.

The elements can be plastic or metal staples or teeth, one end attached to a strip of fabric. Plastic version can be cast (called “tractor”) or twisted (“spiral”).

The weakest link of this entire fastening device is usually the lock, or “slider”. Its malfunction can manifest itself in the breakdown of the “tongue” - the device that we pinch with our fingers. The mechanism that holds the slider closed may break, and then it will come unfastened. In addition, the malfunction can manifest itself in the divergence of the halves of the zipper when trying to fasten it. In the latter case, many advise pressing the halves of the lock closer to each other.

Repairing a zipper by pressing the slider

First, you can try to tighten the lock without removing the slider.

Find pliers, you can use wire cutters, or even a hammer

Find the place on the clasp where inner space empty, not where the partition is. This is the part closer to the bottom of the jacket, as a rule.

Try to squeeze this edge with pliers until the upper and lower walls touch each other.

When you release the pliers, you will see that the edges will move back to some distance, but less.

Try checking the zipper fastening, if it starts to fasten, then everything is fine...

If the zipper is still not fastened very well, then you will have to remove the slider...

To remove a faulty lock, you must remove the stopper on one or both halves of the fasteners. On one - if the zipper has a detachable connection at the bottom. The limiter is most often a metal bracket that prevents the “dog” from jumping out of the serrated tape.

This staple will need to be carefully bent using an awl or a thin screwdriver and completely removed from the strip of zipper base fabric.

After the limiter is removed, the slider is removed through the top of the zipper. We see that it is really distorted and therefore the lightning does not work...

We clamp the slider with pliers and correct its curvature.

Press on one side and the other

The corrected slider is placed on a zipper

Replace the limiter

And clamp it with pliers.

Checking to see if the zipper is fastened...

It happens that there is no limiter on the zipper, and the limiter is the bend of the fastener fabric followed by stitching. In this case, the edge needs to be trimmed. If this is difficult to do, then you can proceed as follows:

We will need small pliers (or manicure tongs, or a flathead screwdriver) and large pliers

Insert the flat end of a tool (screwdriver, for example) under the clamp of the slider and slightly press it out,

So that it can be easily removed from the zipper.

Insert the pliers into the slider as shown here to widen it a little.

Just don't overdo it, or you'll completely break it.

Then we insert the zipper slider again...

And then use small pliers or nail clippers to gently press the sides

After such manipulations, the castle simply has to work :o)

Replacing the zipper slider

Pressing the lock, of course, is useful...
But such resuscitation can be carried out only once; the castle will not withstand any more and will completely fall apart. Therefore, if you managed to save your zipper once, then try to prepare a spare slider - just in case of a fire.

It is possible to qualitatively repair such a fastener on clothing or shoes without completely replacing it, only by replacing the entire lock. Even on a high-quality fastener, it fails first, since constant physical force is applied to it, and its area is relatively small compared to the area of all the teeth.

To determine which lock you need to purchase, you need to know several parameters. Sliders have different sizes- most often they are applied to the back of the clamp.

  • U metal sizes vary from 3 to 10 or more. WITH reverse side The slider is shaped like a triangle.
  • The reverse side of the tractor zipper slider has the shape of a trefoil or an oval, and is designated No. 3 onwards.
  • For twisted lightning, the slider shape is only oval, numbers from 3 onwards.

The letter designations that are stamped next to the numbers indicate the following:

  • X - one-piece zipper, cast, 2 locks;
  • L - the clasp does not open, lock 1;
  • H - one-piece zipper, 2 locks;
  • D - the clasp opens completely, 2 locks with 2 connectors;
  • A - lock without connector;
  • B - connector with 1 lock;
  • C - connector, 2 locks.

How to distinguish between sliders:

Also determine the type of lock: it can be

  • automatic - a mechanism inside the pawl prevents the teeth from diverging in any position of its tongue;
  • semi-automatic - unfastening is possible only with the “tongue” raised - after the zipper is fastened, you need to secure a special stopper; when the puller is raised, the lock will open;
  • haberdashery - when the zipper teeth are not blocked and there is no stopper in the mechanism.

It must be remembered that the sliders change on metal and plastic zippers outerwear. On trousers and skirts, replacing the dog due to its specificity is impossible.
The zipper opens and the slider remains on one half of the zipper. The upper limiter is carefully removed using a screwdriver and pliers. If the edge of the zipper next to the stopper is very close to the fabric, you will need to trim it a little (this is rare).
You need to try to fasten the zipper itself. After that without special effort completely remove the lock from the side of the removed stops. Install the new lock in place of the old one, tucking the edges of the guide tape into the pawl grooves. After the lock is installed, use pliers to clamp the metal stops into place or sew on the torn fabric.

The best way to install the correct slider when buying a new one is to have a sample of the old one. To install it you will need side cutters. And also “limiters” for the slider so that it does not fly off at the top of the zipper. They are also sold in sewing stores. If you are unlucky enough to purchase “limiters”, then you can remove them from the old metal zipper, for example from jeans.

Use side cutters to “bite” the plastic stopper at the top of the zipper (remove the metal stopper with a screwdriver)

And take it off. On the other side, do the same.

Here the sliders are shown to have the same shape. Colored runners are not sold in our sewing stores, so we will limit ourselves to what we have.

Now carefully put on the slider, slightly rocking it up and down.

Put a metal one in place where there was a plastic stopper.

And carefully clamp with side cutters. On the other side, do the same.

The slider can be replaced effortlessly and at home.

Instructions

If the dog gets lost or breaks during use, purchase a new slider. The seller can help you with this. He will select the appropriate slider number. If the zipper is one-piece or sold by the meter, purchase as many sliders as you need. For example, they often place two runners sliding towards each other.

Look carefully at the side of the tape where the slider was inserted. The limiter has most likely come off on top of the rail. It holds in the up position. If the stopper has moved, adjust it using pliers so that the pawl does not jump out again. If the stopper is lost, secure it with a needle. Fasten through the edge of the braid several times. She will not let the runner jump off again.

To collect electricity, you will also need high-voltage large-capacity capacitors and voltage-stabilizing converters. Such equipment is quite expensive, and calculations have been made repeatedly to show that this method of generating energy is ineffective and unprofitable.

The reason for the low efficiency lies, first of all, in the nature of lightning: during a spark discharge, most of the energy is spent on heating the air and the lightning rod itself. In addition, the station will work, and even then not every day.

The Mystery of Ball Lightning

Sometimes during a thunderstorm an unusual one appears. It glows, brightly or dimly, on average, like a 100-watt lamp, has a yellowish or reddish tint, moves slowly, and often flies into rooms. The size of a ball or ellipse varies from a few centimeters to 2-3 meters, but on average it is 15-30 cm.

Despite close study of this phenomenon, its nature is still not clear. During a thunderstorm, objects and people become positively charged, and the fact that ball lightning bypasses them, speaks of its positive charge. It is attracted to negatively charged objects and can even explode.

Ball lightning appears due to the energy of ordinary lightning, at the site of its break, bifurcation, or at the site of impact. There are two hypotheses of its physical essence: according to the first, it constantly receives energy from the outside and “lives” for some time due to this. Proponents of another hypothesis believe that lightning becomes an object after it occurs and maintains its shape due to the energy received from ordinary lightning. No one has yet succeeded in calculating the energy of ball lightning.

Undoubtedly, the zipper is one of the most convenient and practical locks. It's sad to see it break. What to do? You can take your clothes to a tailor and they will replace the entire zipper. But often you can simply change the slider (pawl). You can do this at home yourself. Below you will find instructions on how to fix different kinds lightning

  1. Determining the cause of the defect

If the teeth are broken - then nothing can be done to help - it is necessary. If the teeth are fine, but the pawl gets stuck or the lock comes apart, then the problem is in the slider. Perhaps crimping the runner with pliers will help for a while. But, if this does not work, the dog must be replaced.

  1. Type of lock, selecting a replacement

Types of lightning:

  • tractor, plastic teeth, the dog will be in the shape of a trefoil or oval
  • metal, triangular slider
  • twisted, oval runner

In addition, the size of the slider is important - most often it can be read on the back of the clamp. Next to the size numbers there may be letters:

  • X – cast zipper, two-lock
  • L – does not open at the end, single-lock
  • H – one-piece zipper, two-way
  • D – clasp opens at the end, double-lock
  • A - one-piece
  • B – detachable with single lock
  • C – detachable with two-lock

Types of runners:

  • automatic - it doesn’t matter whether the tongue is lowered or not - the mechanism always blocks the inadvertent divergence of the teeth.
  • semi-automatic - when the zipper is closed, you need to lower the tongue. Otherwise, the lock may come apart.
  • haberdashery - does not have a lock. Great for bags and other items where there is not a lot of stress on the zipper.
  1. We prepare the tools necessary for repairs

For repair you will need:

  • pliers
  • scissors
  • needle and thread
  • dog
  • limiter
  • some glue
  • Remove the limiter. If the stopper catches part of the fabric, pry up this edge with scissors.
  • Cut through the thickened edge. Otherwise it will be difficult to remove the old lock. You can’t forcefully pull out the old lock - you can break the teeth. Carefully remove the slider.
  • Reconnect the zipper and put on the new slider. Check if he walks well.
  • Sew the cut with an overlock stitch.

The plastic limiter will have to be replaced with a new one. The metal limiter can be carefully removed and put back in place. In order for the dog to stand up easily, you will need to slightly unclench it with pliers. Reinstall the limiter only when you are sure that the pawl is working.

  1. We put the slider on the twisted zipper

The procedure is exactly the same. The actions are similar to changing the pawl on a regular detachable zipper. However, a twisted zipper has an advantage - it can be fastened in any direction. Therefore, for such a zipper you can install two sliders at once. Please note that they need to be placed on both sides - they must move towards each other.

  1. Repairing a permanent zipper

The replacement principle is the same. However, you must first carefully unravel the seam to get to the edge of the zipper tape. After replacing the pawl, the seam must be laid again. Preferably on sewing machine- this way the thing will look neat. .

A final note:

If the mechanism is prevented from working by worn-out material, which the slider touches, apply glue to the frayed fabric. Using a needle, you can thinly coat the fabric between the teeth. Glue should not get on the teeth. Otherwise the lock will stop working.

So before you start tearing out that old zipper, let's assess the problem. The slider just can't align your teeth properly. The slider doesn't slide up and down smoothly. Problems #1 and #2 mean, without a shadow of a doubt, replacing the zipper. However, with #3, #4 and #5 there is hope for saving the old zipper. If your slider feels loose or doesn't align your teeth correctly, it could mean the slider is bent. To fix the slider, use long nose pliers and lightly pinch the slider to reduce the gap. Remember, make the gap smaller rather than larger. So pinch and test, pinch and test.

  • The cause of dysfunctional lightning changes.
  • Zipper teeth are missing or jagged.
  • The zipper is broken or missing.
  • The zipper is loose and appears to be coming away from the teeth.
Now about #5 the slider doesn't slide up and down smoothly.

The elements can be plastic or metal staples or teeth, one end attached to a strip of fabric. The plastic version can be molded (called a “tractor”) or twisted (“spiral”).

There may be some minor flaw in the zipper, but chances are a zipper, especially a metal or brass one, just needs some lube. Have you heard of lightning soap? This is a series good brands On the market. Take your time at the very beginning and end of the zipper because this is where a lot of the fastening was done by the manufacturer. There are so many layers to deal with, and don't forget about those pesky snaps, velcro or windbreakers that get in the way. This is the most the right way make your zipper straight and avoid bubbles. There is a little trick to apply the second zipper tape to the other side. The trick is to close the zipper and start attaching the second tape at the very top. Once a few pins are in place, you can unzip the zipper and continue securing the entire length. Attaching at the top when the zipper is closed will ensure proper placement on the zipper. Once you've finished pinning, zip the zipper back up and see if everything is lined up and check to see if everything is laying flat. I like to stitch with a 100 gauge needle, zipper foot, and all-purpose thread, preferably 100% polyester. This is difficult to do while saving time spent on handmade, and working with such bulky materials. Just go to your nearest closet and pull out your dusty winter clothes and crack open!

  • Hey, before you reach the seam ripper, grab your camera.
  • Take a photo of the clothes first so you know how you need to return it all.
  • Take the new zipper and unzip it so you are working with one strip.
  • With the basting done it's time for the actual sewing!
  • Hand basting did most of the work here.
Here's a jacket with a broken zipper.

Repairing a zipper by pressing the slider

First, you can try to tighten the lock without removing the slider.

Find pliers, you can use wire cutters, or even a hammer

The zippered teeth didn't clench when the jacket was zipped up. Before you begin, make sure you choose a zipper that is long enough to open the jacket. Try to buy a zipper that is the same length as your current zipper. If this is not possible, get one that is longer.

You can always shorten top part lightning. Here are two different types zippers for a jacket. The zipper on the left is a silver metallic zipper. The one on the right is made of durable nylon. A metal zipper was chosen for this jacket.

Find a place near the fastener where the interior space is empty and not where there is a partition. This is the part closer to the bottom of the jacket, as a rule.

Try to squeeze this edge with pliers until the upper and lower walls touch each other.

Before you buy a zipper, zip it up and down a few times to make sure it doesn't stick and that it actually works. You wouldn't want to sew it on and find out it was faulty. If your zipper tape is wrinkled, you can iron it, but be careful that you don't hit your teeth on the nylon zippers with the hot iron.

I don't usually have this problem with jackets. But sometimes, the dress or zipper pants are wrinkled. They are better suited for a jacket than for all purposes. Stitch along the stitching line where the original zipper was, being careful not to run over your pins.

When you release the pliers, you will see that the edges will move back to some distance, but less.

Try checking the zipper fastening, if it starts to fasten, then everything is fine...

koposhilki.ru

Take them out just before you get to them. When you get there, just stay the course. You should have no problem staying on the original line. You might think from the photo above that there will be a small wrinkle. Let's see how this stitching line approaches the binding.

Repairing a zipper by pressing the slider

When you reach the bottom of the zipper, you will notice that the zipper tape has a thick, stiff area about one inch in length. You may have noticed that the original zipper ended a few inches above the bottom edge of the jacket. The new zipper was longer and fit perfectly into the bottom of the jacket.

If your zipper is too long, simply fold the excess at the bottom at the top. If it's a few inches too long, leave about an inch or more so you can fold it over the top. Some people don't like any volume from the zipper, so they turn it off.

If you do this, just make sure you have extra ones so you don't have a raw edge at the top. You may need to punch out a stitch on the top zippers to keep the zipper from coming off. You don't have to worry about that second line that was next to the zipper tape.

This staple will need to be carefully bent using an awl or a thin screwdriver and completely removed from the strip of zipper base fabric.

After the limiter is removed, the slider is removed through the top of the zipper. We see that it is really distorted and therefore the lightning does not work...

What is needed to replace the dog?

This one row holds your zipper tightly. Depending on use available Various types sliders. When the left and right lateral teeth are engaged, they are called a chain. It is usually made of polyester, but synthetic fiber tape, vinyl tape and cotton tape are also available depending on the use.

Unsmooth opening and closing of the slider. The engagement of the elements can be damaged, causing a slider that does not open or close smoothly. Loss of Elements Trying to force the closure of an overfilled bag will place excessive stress on the elements. This stress can cause the element to come out of the tape. This is a dangerous problem with a zipper, so the zipper should only be closed after bringing the sides of the two elements towards each other so that the slider can move more easily.

We clamp the slider with pliers and correct its curvature.

Press on one side and the other

The corrected slider is placed on a zipper

Slider caught in fabric. The slider may catch on thread or fabric when opening or closing. Trying to force the slider free will only make the problem worse. Pull the slider back to remove any caught thread or fabric. When the slider bites deep into the fabric, do not push back, but gently push back. When sewing a zipper on a garment, take care to avoid the zipper getting stuck.

Inserting or removing clothing Clothes should only be inserted or removed after the zipper has been fully opened. When closing the zipper, the slider will move smoothly if the hook or top button is secured in advance. If the slider is left halfway, undue stress is placed on the elements, bottom stop, or the slider itself and can cause damage. The same attention given to boots, gloves and zippered accessories minimizes problems.

Replace the limiter

And clamp it with pliers.

Proper ironing with appropriate heat depending on the material. Using proper heat for ironing material is not limited to clothing, but also applies to zippers. Zippers can be durable and beautiful considering the material they are made from and ironed with the proper warmth. The zipper should always be closed before ironing, the slider secured in the correct position, and the zipper covered with a piece of fabric, no matter what material it is. The retractable slider tongue should never be ironed when it is straight forward or backwards.

To the left, the tip of the slider may damage the fabric, or the tape may stretch or may shrink. Strong alkaline detergents or chlorine bleaches used to remove oil or stains dissolve wax or oil film and should be used with caution. Zippers have changed a lot since they were first invented, and they don't have the problems that we all have. From stuck zippers to teeth that just won, here's how to solve all the problems you'll encounter with everything zippered.

When your zipper gets stuck, it feels like it's caught on something. The zipper may not come down at all, and until you fix it, you'll be stuck inside the jacket. Take a graphite pencil and rub the tip of the pencil on your teeth. Try again and it should work. If that doesn't work, it's time to move on to lubrication. Start with the zipper all the way down and slowly apply the lubricant to your teeth.

Insert the flat end of a tool (screwdriver, for example) under the clamp of the slider and slightly press it out,

So that it can be easily removed from the zipper.

Insert the pliers into the slider as shown here to widen it a little.

Then tighten the zipper a little more, try again, and keep doing this until the zipper is all the way down.

One of the most unpleasant problems with a zipper is that the teeth do not close. The problem is related to several for various reasons. Sometimes the above-mentioned pencil trick can smooth out teeth so they work again.

If this doesn't work, the slider may not work correctly. First, double check that there is no piece of fabric or thread stuck on the zipper. Then look at individual teeth. If any of them are sticking out, take a pair of pliers and push them back into place so they are all straight.

Just don't overdo it, or you'll completely break it.

Then we insert the zipper slider again...

If your teeth are straight and clean, take a look at the slider itself. Over time the slider starts to fall apart and when this happens it stops the zipper teeth together. Take some pliers and try to close the slider until it catches the teeth again.

When it comes to jeans, the decision is a little more complicated. If you can, you'll need to remove the metal bumper at the bottom and replace it with stitches, or just tie it in the middle if the bottom is missing teeth. Unfortunately, this only really works with pants, where you can actually reach the bottom bumper.

If this fails, or you are working on pants where you can't reach the entire zipper run, you may need to replace the zipper entirely. A common problem with pants zippers is a zipper that won't stay in place. This can lead to all types of embarrassing situations. Unfortunately, you can't really fix this problem permanently unless you completely replace the zipper.

However, you have two simple temporary fixes. This makes zipping easier. If you prefer a little more flexibility, you can also try a rubber band. So you don't have to replace the whole zipper, just the slider? Replacing a zipper slider - sometimes called a pop tab or zipper head - is usually much easier than complete replacement lightning. However, there are still a few questions that need to be answered to determine the right part to use.

It is possible to qualitatively repair such a fastener on clothing or shoes without completely replacing it, only by replacing the entire lock. Even on a high-quality fastener, it fails first, since constant physical force is applied to it, and its area is relatively small compared to the area of all the teeth.

  • For twisted lightning, the slider shape is only oval, numbers from 3 onwards.

The letter designations that are stamped next to the numbers indicate the following:

  • X - one-piece zipper, cast, 2 locks;
  • L - the clasp does not open, lock 1;
  • H - one-piece zipper, 2 locks;
  • D - the clasp opens completely, 2 locks with 2 connectors;
  • A - lock without connector;
  • B - connector with 1 lock;
  • C - connector, 2 locks.

How to distinguish between sliders:

Also determine the type of lock: it can be

  • automatic - a mechanism inside the pawl prevents the teeth from diverging in any position of its tongue;
  • semi-automatic - unfastening is possible only with the “tongue” raised - after the zipper is fastened, you need to secure a special stopper; when the puller is raised, the lock will open;
  • haberdashery - when the zipper teeth are not blocked and there is no stopper in the mechanism.

It must be remembered that the sliders change on metal and plastic zippers of outerwear.
After this, without much effort, completely remove the lock from the side of the removed limiters.

If you are unlucky enough to purchase “stoppers,” you can remove them from an old metal zipper, for example, from jeans.

Use side cutters to “bite” the plastic stopper at the top of the zipper (remove the metal stopper with a screwdriver)

And take it off. On the other side, do the same.

Now carefully put on the slider, slightly rocking it up and down.

And carefully clamp with side cutters. On the other side, do the same.

The slider can be replaced effortlessly and at home.

Alena Maslova's workshop

Everyone has encountered the problem when a zipper on a jacket or sweater “spreads” or the slider breaks (popularly called a “dog”). You should not immediately change the zipper, do an inspection if all the teeth are in order, then replacing the slider will cost less.

But let's look at what types of sliders there are, because a slider for a metal zipper is not suitable for a plastic zipper. And I recommend buying a new one rather than removing it from things you don't wear.

Here is a zipper slider with plastic teeth, “tractor” No. 5. It is widened and rounded at the top.

This is a zipper slider with metal teeth № 5.

This one is for “twisted” zipper No. 7, it has teeth in the shape of a spiral.

The zipper numbers depend on the thickness of the zipper itself.

The best way to install the correct slider is to have a sample of the old one when buying a new one.

Let's assume that you have purchased the desired slider. To install it you will need side cutters. And also “limiters” for the slider so that it does not fly off at the top of the zipper. They are also sold in sewing stores. If you are unlucky enough to purchase “stoppers,” you can remove them from an old metal zipper, for example, from jeans. I cut out these limiters with scissors and put them in a matchbox.

and remove it. On the other side, do the same.

Here the sliders are shown to have the same shape. Colored runners are not sold in our sewing stores, so we will limit ourselves to what we have.

Now carefully put on the slider, slightly rocking it up and down. It's a pity this isn't shown in the photo.

Put a metal one in place where there was a plastic stopper.

And carefully clamp with side cutters. Do the same on the other side.

Produced effortlessly and at home. Wear it with pleasure.
